How I Created My First Figure Animation in Krita

The Idea I was at the gym doing lunges as the idea of a mage jumping forward to make a half lunge and casting a spell with his wand crossed my mind. Use Yourself as a Reference (Picture 1) I filmed myself doing the mage's movement and then I screenshoted the essential keyframes. You can also take those keyframes from a video you find on Youtube or other sites. Just pause them, hit the appropriate key on your keyboard to screenshot and paste it in your image manipulation program. Now I have a reference, screenshots of the keyframes and can do a rough sketch of them. I´m going to use a program called Krita . It´s free and open-source. From Concept Sketches to a Finished Painting

In this blogpost I´m going to talk about my approach on creating this painting. Concept Sketches I begin with a sketch. The easiest way for me to throw out my ideas is by making small tiles and putting in the objects I´m thinking about. In the first concept sketches I tried to apply the rule of thirds. In case you are not familiar with this term: Rule of thirds Divice the sketch horizontally and vertically into 3 sections creating 9 equally sized areas. Important objects will be placed on or along the guidelines. That way your compositions will look more interesting. Following things are to see on my sketches A person sitting on his vehicle holding a map into the sky and trying to identify it.
